I first tried the update with a uspasp (not isp) I had sitting around, before the latest updater software was released, and also ended up with a metropolis that wouldn't power up. I replaced the chip with a blank atmega328 from Amazon and reran the updater with a friend's intellijel usbisp and it worked perfectly, metropolis resurrected.
